At Quay Words we’ve been developing a model with self-expression through creative writing at its heart, for use as a tool in community building and supporting marginalised groups.

We’ve been reaching out to groups that work with all kinds of communities in the Exeter area, to join us for free creative writing courses. The communities we work with have a role in designing how they use creative writing, words and stories, as well as what they want to learn and produce.

In 2021 we have run community writing courses in partnership with Resilient Women and Interwoven Production CIC. Our course with Resilient Women was run by writer Jackie Juno and focused on writing as a tool for wellbeing for women facing challenges in their lives.

The women have absolutely loved it. We really appreciate the funding that led to this opportunity too so thank you … To be able to participate in such quality creative experiences is just so fantastic’ Jeanie, Resilient Women Programme Manager

We’re currently working with Interwoven Productions CIC to run community writing courses at Exeter Custom House working with local people, using oral history and hyper local heritage to inspire people to tell stories about their own communities and past.
