We’ve got an exciting programme of events for you to enjoy this summer. Here are the highlights and a date for your diaries:
Poetry and Reminiscence Cabarets – each Wednesday afternoon (until 28th July) at 4 pm in Exeter Custom House, we will be hearing and sharing poetry with Bristol City Poet Caleb Parkin. Come along and enjoy your favourite poems with refreshments included. Next week will be the Soggy Cabaret! Rivers and oceans of poetry will flow into your ears, from Wordsworth’s Thames and the ‘cool blue middle’ of Tony Hoagland’s lake. You can book a table for one or two in a bubble HERE.
Join Naomi Westerman, our summer writer-in-residence, for a series of free outdoor workshops on Nature Writing for Performance. Over the course of two sessions (Thursday 15th and Tuesday 27th July), participants will be encouraged to write a piece for performance inspired by something in the natural world. This could be a monologue, a poem, or something else. The workshops will culminate on Wednesday 28th July with a Quay Voices event where you can share your work on the Quay Words stage with Naomi. You can book for the workshops HERE and audience tickets for the Quay Voices event can be booked HERE.
We are thrilled to welcome Anita Sethi to Quay Words on 11th August, reading from her memoir, I Belong Here: A Journey Along the Backbone of Britain, which has just been long-listed for the Wainwright Prize. We are looking forward to an evening discussing belonging, identity, place and nature. You can book to be in the audience at Exeter Custom House HERE or to be in the live online audience HERE.
…and lastly, a heads up for your diary in September! Quay Words will host the multi-talented Anthony Joseph with his The Frequency of Magic tour, produced by Speaking Volumes. On Wednesday 8th September at 6.30pm, join author, poet and musician Anthony Joseph as he reads from his most recent novel, accompanied by some of the UK’s finest musicians. Anthony will create an enthralling performance of spoken word and improvised jazz live on Exeter Quayside at the Transit Shed in front of Exeter Custom House. Book HERE.
