Ellen Wiles joined Quay Words as the Spring 2022 writer-in-residence at Exeter Custom House, to explore our Spring Season science theme.
Ellen was in residence during March-April 2022. She led a creative writing-walking workshop for families, hosted a conversation with scientists on Climate Science and Creativity and created a new piece of writing presented as an immersive listening event. The New Riverscapers: A Beaver’s Tale is narrated by a mother beaver whose kits are growing up fast and on the brink of independence. She has cause for some disgruntlement with humankind. Ellen was inspired to write this piece during her Science themed residency, focusing on the beaver as symbol of our local changing ecology, and presenting an animal’s eye-view of climate change. You can listen to it on Ellen’s website here, via our Quay Words in audio page or via Soundcloud below.
