Julia Copus is a poet and children’s author. She has published four collections of poetry, the most recent of which is Girlhood (Faber & Faber 2019), and is the editor of Life Support: 100 Poems to Reach for on Dark Nights (Head of Zeus, 2019). Her debut collection, The Shuttered Eye, appeared from Bloodaxe in 1995, when she was 25, and contained the first of several ‘specular’ poems, a form she pioneered in which the second half of the poem is an exact mirror of the first, using the same lines but in reverse order. Her awards include First Prize in the National Poetry Competition and the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem (2010) for ‘An Easy Passage’. Faber also publishes her rhyming picture books for children, which include The Shrew That Flew (2016) and My Bed is an Air Balloon (2018). In 2018, she was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
