A chance to meet Poet Sara-Jane Arbury at various venues throughout the City and even use your impressions of the history around you to create a haiku. A haiku is a short poem 3 lines long and made up of no more than 17 syllables. You could even post it to social media with the hashtag #heritagehaiku

About Sara-Jane Arbury
Sara-Jane Arbury is a writer, performer and workshop facilitator. She has been involved in the production and promotion of creative writing and live literature since 1993. She has collaborated with organisations such as Arts Council England, the BBC, Oxford University Press, the Department for Education, NAWE (National Association of Writers in Education), The Poetry Society, Apples & Snakes, Writing West Midlands and Bloodaxe Books to name but a few. She was Voices Off Director at Cheltenham Literature Festival for over a decade.
Sara-Jane has been a writer-in-residence for many civic projects with national and regional councils including for the county of Herefordshire. Some of her more unusual residencies include Leopardstown Horse Races for RTÉ, The Galleries shopping mall in Bristol and Bard-on-Board for Oxford Bus Company. She has performed her poetry on national television and radio, and at numerous festivals including Glastonbury, Hay-on-Wye, Ledbury, Port Eliot and Edinburgh.
Sara-Jane is often commissioned to write and stage bespoke events, from interactive murder mysteries to touring poetry-theatre shows for children and adults. Her most recent stage shows for families include writing and performing The Word Wizard’s Guide to Roald Dahl, The Rotsome Words of Roald Dahl (both commissioned by Oxford University Press) and Dr Seuss’ Fun is Good!
Sara-Jane has worked as a practitioner in the Community Programme team at Ledbury Poetry Festival (LPF) for many years. She regularly delivers poetry workshops with LPF partners such as Herefordshire Museum Service, Mind, women’s refuge services, young carers and rural groups.
Sara-Jane also runs young writers’ groups for Writing West Midlands and works extensively in schools and colleges across the country. Her poems have appeared in pamphlets and anthologies, most recently in Found Voices: A Poetry Trail Exploring Ledbury’s Heritage published by Joined Up Heritage. Site-specific theatre company, Feral Productions, performed Hush Now, a collection of her poems exploring the hidden history of Herefordshire’s mother and baby institutions, to widespread acclaim in 2019.
