Thursday 30 September
On 20th October our writer-in-residence Naomi Westerman is curating an evening of nature writing for performance, part of our Quay Voices strand, and we would like you to join us! We have an open call for short pieces of nature writing to be read aloud. Submissions can be monologues, poetry or prose.
Naomi has created a resource on Nature Writing for Performance containing creative writing tips and exercises to get the creative juices flowing. You can use this as inspiration for your submission or for your own writing time. The resource can be downloaded here.
On 1st September at 1pm- 2pm Naomi will also be running a group Zoom session, to check in on how you’ve found the resource, give tips and inspiration on firming up a piece for submission and to connect with writers in the South West. You can book for that here.
The showcase will be on 20th October at 6.30pm at Exeter Custom House, the event will be performed in front of an in-person audience and also simultaneously broadcast live via Crowdcast. If your piece is selected we’d love you to attend the event in-person and perform your own piece, but if you prefer not to perform, or if it’s not practical for you to attend, we will have other readers.
Please submit your piece by 5pm on 30th September to: customhouse@literatureworks.org.uk
We will let you know if you’ve been selected by Friday 8th October.
We look forward to reading you work!
